Note: This is documentation for BUK Protocol v1 which is now deprecated. Refer to BUK protocol v2 documentation for latest changes.
BUK is a decentralized, open chain globally accessible protocol, making the conventional travel inventory distribution and booking experience more flexible and decentralized to benefit all participants, travelers, asset owners (hotels, airlines, tour operators, event organizers etc.).
With BUK, when you book a travel service (ex. hotel rooms or flight tickets) you get an NFT which represents the right to stay in that particular room of that hotel for a specific night. However, unlike a traditional booking this NFT can be traded and sold to someone else. The asset owner - Hotels, Airlines, etc. get commissions every time a room night NFT is traded, end customers get the flexibility to Resell, instead of canceling and since all transactions are on the blockchain, it makes the process transparent. The protocol also supports commissions for key intermediaries such as travel portals, aggregators etc.
BUK protocol is built as an independent Protocol layer with an accompanying set of Open APIs and SDKs for developers and partners to consume and build products.
BukTrips.com is the first use case for implementation of the BUK Protocol. BukTrips.com is a hotel booking engine which utilizes the BUK Protocol to tokenize hotel room bookings and makes them resellable through the BUK Protocol.
This video demonstrates how a hotel is booked, listed and resold on BukTrips.com - it also covers how to verify the on-chain transactions and view the NFTs minted on platforms such as Rarible and OpenSea.
